Fishing Float Dress
Photographs documenting performance
Dress: 100 bubble fishing floats, elastic, fabric
The dress is supposed to represent a jellyfish, it will float on the surface when out in deeper water, it is about 4metres in diameter and tangles around your body whilst in the surf, also it goes transparent when wet. The dress has a bridal look to it, I was trying to embody the ultra feminine into a fragile, yet powerful jellyfish.

Jellyfish Sonnet
Squishy bodies bob aimlessly around,
too and fro, back and forth, each day the same.
Circular, spherical, sandy beach bound,
wiry tentacles and tender membranes.
Come, play along with the mysterious crowd
very beautiful, yet not cute nor tame.
Tingly currents and toxins coloured loud
beware the lure of the lion mane.
When tempted by death, now I float proud,
blooms that once smothered me, fueled my pain,
morph in the depths of the sea. No sound.
Scarred and weepy tissue, just mind remains.
Now jellyfish, and the tide is right...I
rendezvous with my swarm under moonlight.

The Essence of a Man
Sculpted broad shoulders,
his skin flattered by even the ugliest of light.
He knows it. Are we alone?
Woman will fall and men surrender,
real arms to hold you tight and fight.
Urges cheat me of control. Move fast.
Comfort me for I am broken,
even being within your sight.
Deep and resounding, few words spoken.
Goose pimples prickle, one kiss is my worth.
Cheek scarred forever.

Shaun Space- 'Numbers, Avatars and Jellyfish'

Steel, latex and fluorescent lights |
On a recent trip to Australia I encountered dangerous animals, cyclone Yasi, flood devestation and deadly seas. This really emphasised the true power of nature. I was previously looking at the female form, so I chose the jellyfish to represent 'Mother Nature' as I felt it had feminine charcteristics: beauty, power, vulnerability and mystery. The jellyfish is made from steel on a large scale, it is subtly lit and has rather an alien presence. After witnessing the recent devastation in Japan I feel that the subject of 'Mother Nature' and its power is now extremely topical, I aim to construct an army of these creatures to remind man of the wonders and powers of nature.
