About Me

Libby
Dad is a welder and I have always been exposed to the world of heavy industry, a fascination has grown with it, due to this I have developed a curiosity on gender and stereotypical roles and uniforms. My work is influenced by my childhood. I have an identical twin sister which has lead me to produce work aiming to empower the female form, often it appears borderline sexist as opposed to feminist. I like to use myself in my work as it is a surreal experience. Being quite shy in character I enjoy the awkwardness, embarrassment and pretense involved in performance. After witnessing the floods and magnificent creatures in Australia my work has become focused upon the character 'Mother Nature'. I feel that in this political climate, man is beginning to forget the power and control of nature. My aim is to reinstore our respect for it and instill a slight fear and urgency for change.
