Regina Frank

Regina Franks work began in a gallery window, where she sewed pearls onto a dress for 28 days, each day for a different rate of pay from around the world. As her work developed she began to sew around herself, wearing the dress. The performative element became more theatrical and the costume 'fairytale-esque'. She used lettered beads instead of pearls to communicate through the dress.Communication technology was introduced to her work, she began using a blog and scouring the Internet, unusual for her time, whilst inside her dresses.

The shape of the dresses appeal to me, they have huge skirts and are simple, often with a monotony in the making. Within 'Regina Frank- the artist is present' I read a quote that struck something with me: 'I wonder whether the Internet needs something like seasons' I liked the idea; the Internet can be so full of information and when first discovering it, it is so vast there is no start and there is certainly no end to what you can look up, it is unnatural. Giving it seasons would almost help neutralise its structure and make it more natural and in fitting with Reginas environmental themes.

Cai Guo-Qiang

Gun Powder Drawings Installation
Head On
I like the way Cai Guo-Qiang has installed his drawings making them sculptural rather than framed and intangible. This way you can explore and experience the drawing. Head On looks at the instincts of animals and how man can effect them. It was first made for the Deutsche Guggenhein, Berlin, in 2006, it was intended to reference the political struggle with the Berlin Wall, it shows how man is still an animal at the end of the day. I feel I have some similar ideas in my work, but they are nowhere near as punchy and succinct as Cai Guo-Qiangs.
